Puzzles: a history of useful hobbies
Everyone loves puzzles or, in any case, knows what it is. This is a wonderful puzzle game for the whole family, a pleasant pastime and a useful training for the mind, memory and attention. Historically, puzzles were created precisely as a teaching aid. They were invented in England by merchant John Spilsbury in the middle of the 18th century. They were black and white maps, pasted on a wooden base and cut into pieces of different shapes. Each piece contained certain information and, collecting them one after another in one piece, it was possible to study geography.
The first puzzles were very expensive, but, nevertheless, quickly gained popularity in England and other European countries. In the XIX century puzzles "leaked" to America. Enterprising Americans began to use cardboard sheets instead of wooden base, thereby significantly reducing the cost of puzzles and making them accessible to most people. Since then puzzles have become not only a teaching aid, but also a pleasant entertainment. They began to be produced on the basis of reproductions of art paintings.
Raging popularity puzzles acquired during the "dry law" in America. In addition to reproductions of pictures, photographs of natural landscapes, cars, celebrities, as well as pictures from films and cartoons, first black and white, and then colored ones, began to be used. Fans of puzzles gathered in teams and arranged whole tournaments to collect huge paintings from several tens of thousands of pieces.
In Russia before the revolution puzzles were fashionable salon entertainment and were called "puzelya." Unfortunately, in the USSR puzzles were almost never released. In Russia, the modern "puzel" has again gained popularity, now this hobby is accessible to everyone, including online.
Puzzles are multifunctional: adults often use the collected pictures to decorate the interior, and the children of the puzzle are useful both as a toy and as a simulator that develops logical thinking, imagination and attention. Well and besides, a cardboard puzzle is a great gift for any holiday, you just need to choose the right size, picture and beautifully wrap.
Online puzzles: make out a picture
Puzzles are an exciting activity for all ages. Modern manufacturers offer loose pictures of any complexity and for every taste: from cartoon stories to reproductions of masterpieces of world art. The variety of subjects is amazing - still-lifes, landscapes, portraits, genre scenes. If desired, you can collect a whole collection, for example, fairy-tale characters or locks.
Puzzles are a universal gift. They can be collected by one and the company, they will help to pass away leisure in bad weather or brighten up "house arrest" in case of illness. It is not superfluous to recall that classes with puzzles are useful for children: they develop perseverance, care and accuracy, and with minimal efforts of adults, the imagination of the kids also.
There are, however, circumstances that limit the enthusiasm of puzzle players. Firstly, you need a lot of space and time to build large paintings. Agree, not all members of the family will be delighted with the two-week occupation of your masterpiece of the dining table or the crown seat on the carpet in front of the TV. And for the puzzles such an arrangement is fraught with losses. Secondly, when the picture is collected, usually the question arises - "What’s next?". Do not break the same work of art again by 2-3 thousand pieces?
We will try to tell you how to solve these problems.
So, where to collect puzzles? For example, you were presented with a loose picture with a gorgeous view of New York, a window into the world the size of which is only 86x116 cm. Of course, special rugs for assembling puzzles are sold, but they are, to be honest, expensive and do not cover all sizes of paintings. Our advice - do not look around the city or the Internet for a store to buy such a rug, but go better to the nearest building supermarket. And buy there 2 (!) Piece of the most thin fiberboard size, each, in our case, 100x130 cm. Yes, it is heavy, but incomparable (or rather, about 10 times) is cheaper than a rug. As you understand, the sheet format - the dimensions of the picture plus the allowances on each side about 5 cm. This is your desktop / floor - shorter, a springboard for action. On one sheet you collect a picture, the second you cover the collected part for the time of breaks. In this form, you can safely shove your masterpiece for a week or two under a sofa, under a carpet or put it on a cabinet, for the reliability of grabbing the edges of sheets in several places with scotch tape. And be calm - your cat will not make its own adjustments to the work, everything will remain in its place.
So, slowly, for a week-month-year, you collected the picture. And now what? How to apply for it? Our recommendations again you will be sent to the building store. What for? For self-adhesive film, moldings (yes-yes!), Glue, paint and varnish. What for? We tell.
The collected picture is turned face down - with two sheets of fiberboard to make it simple, according to the principle of "tails-eagle" for the coin. On the wrong side we apply a corresponding sheet of self-adhesive film with a protective layer. We start to glue it gently - for several centimeters peeling off the protective layer. To make it easier, start moving from the short side of the picture. Do not rush, each glued piece is carefully pressed with a rigid ruler, preventing the formation of air bubbles.
The glued thus pattern is glued with universal glue to the sheet of fiberboard with the marking of symmetrical fields. We advise on the sheet immediately make holes for hanging the picture - it is better not one, but two at a fairly large distance from each other. Now proceed to the design of the frame.
A baguette frame for a picture of puzzles is a great luxury. Replace this baguette with foam plastic moldings. First, they are much cheaper, secondly - it’s easier, thirdly, it’s easier to work with them. In building stores, the widest choice is offered - of different widths and profiles, with all sorts of ornaments. Choose molding to your taste, according to your vision of the finished masterpiece. A strict or ornate frame will have your picture - choose you, like what color it will be. Think in advance where your work will hang, this will facilitate your choice, will prompt the necessary design decision.
First paint the moldings with the selected paint or metallic pigment using a brush or an aerosol can. When they dry, use a knife to cut out the details of the frame of the desired length and carefully glue it with a universal glue to the sheet with the picture. If the left margins are wider than the selected baguette, trim them to the desired width before gluing the frame. Opposite the nail holes, select the foam plastic carefully, so that it does not burst when you hang the picture.
If desired, the finished picture can be covered with a varnish - a brush or an aerosol can. In the latter case, the coating will be more even and you will be able to avoid streaks. At this stage, you can use different effects of krackle or aging of the cover - the main thing is to have a sense of proportion, because such a decor does not fit all the subjects.
And a little more clue. In the pictures of puzzles you can combine beautiful with polezom. For example, on a puzzle with the image of the seasons, you can place a room thermometer or a tear-off calendar on the side. Under the picture with a fairy-tale palace, you can make a pocket for keys, and for the drawing with cartoon characters, hooks for children’s clothes will be a good addition. Think over the composition and calculate the size of the base sheet - and forward, for work!
