On the occasion of the 160th anniversary of the birth of Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890), Buenos Aires presented to local residents and tourists an exhibition of more than 200 works by the Dutch artist, reproduced using interactive 3D technologies that literally transfer the viewer to the creative world of the master.

“Vincent van Gogh, my dream exhibition” (Vincent van Gogh, mi exposición soñada) runs through October 6th. Here you can see in high definition 220 digital copies of paintings by the famous artist. Among them are such masterpieces as “Potato Eaters”, “Seine Coast”, “Vase with Sunflowers”, “House and Bedroom” and “Wheat Field with Ravens”. In addition, his Starry Night and all of Van Gogh’s famous self-portraits will be broadcast on a large interactive display.

Buenos Aires Minister of Culture Hernán Lombardi announced at the opening of the exhibition that this is a kind of “chronological journey through the life and work of Van Gogh with the help of reproductions of exceptional quality. New technologies have helped achieve a level of reproduction that would have been unthinkable a few years ago. ”

The exhibition occupies two floors and opens with twelve self-portraits of the artist, who died at the age of 37, in France, not knowing fame. The exposition is divided into five stages: works performed between 1880 and 1886, when he used mainly natural colors; The “Paris period”, from 1886 to 1888, when Van Gogh settled on a bright palette, and color began to play a special role in his perception of the world. The third segment, entitled “Arles”, dates back to the time when he lived in this city in the south of France, between 1888 and 1889. This period is characterized by the use of mainly yellow, green and blue shades, which characterize most of the paintings of the last period. In particular, the famous works “The Sower”, “The Yellow House” and “Vase with Twelve Sunflowers”, which serve as a kind of prelude to the fourth stage of Van Gogh’s work, belong to this time. This stage refers to life in Saint-Remy-de-Provence, in 1889-1890, where Van Gogh was hospitalized in a psychiatric hospital. It was at this time that Starry Night (1988) and Irises (1989) were written. The show ends with a demonstration of "Wheat Field with Ravens." Contrary to popular myth, this is the last work of the Dutch artist, and is one of his most powerful paintings.

This is the first retrospective exhibition, combining such a wide selection of Van Gogh’s works, presented in full size and in chronological order. She fully demonstrates his artistic growth, differences in methods of processing colors and themes.
