Unknown Van Eyck figure found Automatic translate
The Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam has announced one of the greatest discoveries in the field of painting. Found created six centuries ago, a previously unknown drawing belonging to the van Eyck studio (1390? -1441).
The drawing will be exhibited as part of the exhibition “The Road to Van Eyck”. It was bought forty years ago, at an auction for the sale of property in the province of Na, in the north of Holland. The buyer paid ten guilders for the image of the crucified Christ, because he really liked the plot.
As it turned out, drawing is of much greater value. Experts have determined that this is an original work of the 15th century, and not a much later fake, as previously thought. The work will be exhibited on Saturday, October 13, at the exhibition “The Road to Van Eyck”, together with more than nine dozen other masterpieces by artists such as Jan van Eyck, Jean Maluel, Klaus de Verve. In the figure, the crucified Jesus is raised high above the heads of those around him, and the outlines of the city of Jerusalem are visible on the horizon. The work is striking in high detail and sophistication. The author applied the technique of drawing in gold and silver, which is often found in other works of Van Eyck, which gave reason for scientists to confidently determine the authorship of the drawing.
The pattern was discovered, as often happens, almost by accident. In preparation for the Road to Van Eyck exhibition, one of the curators of the Boijmans Van Beuningen museum, Friso Lammertse, drew the attention of his professional colleagues to this drawing. Where exactly the picture was at that moment - has not yet been reported. But the drawing was carefully researched and presented at a symposium on the work of Van Eyck, which took place in Brussels in September. The work caused a lively debate among scientists, but, in the end, there was no doubt that this drawing was one of the greatest discoveries in the field of old art in the last decade.
