The Prado Museum opens the exhibition "Late Rafael" Automatic translate
The Prado Museum in Madrid, from June 12 to September 16, hosts an exhibition of works by one of the greatest Renaissance masters, Raffaello Santi (Raffaello Santi, 1483-1520). The exhibition was organized jointly with the Louvre Museum and covers the last years of the life of a brilliant artist, namely 1513-1520.
The exhibition presents 70 works by the master, including 40 paintings and 30 drawings, caricatures, tapestries and more. During the period of his life covered by the exhibition, Raphael was already famous and very rich, he moved to Rome and put his work on the conveyor. About 50 artists of various styles worked in his workshops, helping him to realize his ideas, as well as take numerous orders. Related to this are the incessant disputes about the authorship of many paintings attributed to Raphael’s brush.
Researchers Tom Henry and Paul Joannides have been conducting art and scientific research for five years to present their catalog for today’s exhibition. Based on the vast knowledge and experience of art historians such as Miguel Falomir (Prado) and Vincent Delieuvin (Louvre), as well as technical studies by Ana González Mozo, this duet has advanced far in such matters. as dates of writing works and authorship.
Unfortunately, one of the last works of the master, which many regard as his testament, is kept in the Vatican Pinacoteca and never leaves it because of its value and size. A copy of the painting will be presented at the exhibition.
Also on display are the works of Rafael’s best students: Giulio Romano and Gianfrancesco Penni. These works, presented at the end of the exhibition, as if continue the life of Raphael after his death.
After finishing work in Madrid, the exhibition will move to Paris and will be presented in the Louvre from October 2012 to January 2013.
