Picasso Museum in Barcelona unveils anniversary program Automatic translate
In May 2013, a large monographic exhibition will open, which will contain more than seventy works, starting with the childhood of Pablo Picasso (Pablo Picasso) and ending with the time, shortly before his death.
This was announced yesterday by the new director of the Picasso Museum in Barcelona, Bernardo Laniado-Romero (Bernardo Laniado-Romero), presenting the program for the celebration of the golden anniversary of the museum. “Many of the events will be dedicated to a significant date,” emphasizes Laniado Romero, who took office three months ago.
What could be better to celebrate this anniversary than to present an exhibition of outstanding self-portraits of Picasso. It will be held in the museum from May 29 to September 1, 2013 and will be called "Picasso. Self-portraits. ” The exhibition will feature more than seventy works that span almost eighty years of the artist’s work. Half of the works that will be presented from the museum’s collection, the second half will be provided by the artist’s family and various organizations such as the Museum of Modern Art and the National Gallery in Washington.
Laniado Romero also announced some new items for next season. In September, they will present to the public the restored painting “Portrait of the Artist’s Mother” (Retrato de la madre del artista, 1896), which surprised the restorers by the fact that underneath was another work that had nothing to do with the portrait.
Also in the new season in the museum you can see various documentaries about the museum’s work and how the collection was formed, as well as an overview of the museum’s exhibitions over the past fifty years and the role of Picasso’s personal secretary, Jaume Sabartés, in preserving the artist’s heritage.
