The Moscow Theater "School of the Modern Play" presents a play based on the play by Olga Pogodina-Kuzmina "There is no Tolstoy" directed by Alexander Sozonov.
Yasnaya Polyana, 1910. Leo Nikolayevich Tolstoy, 82, has only a few months to live. The whole family gathers in the estate, headed by Sofya Andreevna, the writer’s wife. Sofya Andreevna, a 66-year-old countess who has been married to a great writer for almost half a century, endured a genius next to her for a long time. She didn’t just endure - she was a wonderful wife who gave birth to 13 children! She always conscientiously performed maternal duties, not shifting them to nannies and mothers, but at the same time she managed to manage the preparation and correspondence of the great husband’s manuscripts. It would seem - an idyll… Once everything changed radically.
The family drama taking place at the count’s estate became the basis of the plot of the play. Olga Pogodina-Kuzmina created it on the basis of original documents - memoirs, letters, diaries. Details, collisions, nuances of the relationship between husband and wife, mother and children, brothers and sister are based on very intimate details. But… as the writer Vladimir Solovyov aptly put it, what could be more interesting than "gossip expanded into a metaphor"? Here, too, invading the territory of the private life of the great writer and his relatives, we get a chance to evaluate “from what rubbish” sometimes great literary creations are born.
The young director Alexander Sozonov brought this play to the theater with the expectation of a specific actress: Irina Alferova. And, of course, it was she who became the center around which the action unfolds, the relationship between the characters, the plot.
Together with the artist Lilia Khismatullina, the director not only used the interior features of the Hermitage hall, but also turned the theater premises into one of the full-fledged participants in the drama. The gilded walls, decorated with stucco and mirrors, sometimes glow with a magical light, sometimes they are covered with mold, sometimes they are engulfed in a fire. The non-standard space solution allows viewers to feel themselves in the center of events - in the life of an unhappy family. After all, each family, as Tolstoy himself wrote, is "unhappy in its own way."
The play includes:
- The Theater of Nations hosted the premiere of the play "Living Pictures" dedicated to the real heroes of the siege of Leningrad
- Sergey Alferov. Weather vane of the astral winds
- No Tolstoy
- "Overcoat / Coat"
- Frozen sounds
- Conversation with happiness 6+
