DAU World Premiere in Paris Automatic translate
From January 24 to February 17, 2019, with the support of the local city hall in Paris, the world premiere of the DAU project will be held. Together with the three main partners - Theater du Châtelet and Theater de la Ville, as well as with the National Center for Arts and Culture of Pompidou, the authors of the project will offer the public an unprecedented experience of immersion in the DAU space. Spectators will be able to come for several hours at any time of the day or come again and again on different days. The audience will be invited to see 13 films and a series of series edited from 700 hours of film footage shot at 35 mm, as well as to participate in various scientific and spiritual practices, seminars, attend concerts, performances and installations.
Three venues where DAU shows will take place, within a month, will be connected in the air by laser beams: the symbolic Red Triangle is partly inspired by the aesthetics of the Russian avant-garde of the early XX century.
Penetration into the DAU world is offered to the viewer in two Parisian spaces, the twin theaters on Place Châtelet, which are undergoing extensive reconstruction, among the wreckage and stage decorations that seem to be frozen between the past and the future. Both theaters will be open exclusively for DAU events, 7 days a week 24 hours a day.
Also at the Pompidou Center / during the museum’s opening hours / will be presented an immersive installation that reproduces the atmosphere of the DAU Institute, and again the heroes of the project will live in it.
ABOUT DAU PROJECT
DAU is a multidisciplinary art project that exists at the intersection of art and science, theology and technology, truth and myth. The Institute was reconstructed to shoot film material in the Ukrainian city of Kharkov. It became the largest filming location in Europe and at the same time a living parallel reality, where for three years, from 2009 to 2011, observing the rules of historical reconstruction, scientists, artists, musicians, philosophers, religious figures, mystics lived and worked along with cooks, janitors, nurses, hairdressers, and hundreds of other real characters. The goal of the DAU Institute, as well as any other existing institutions that served as its model, was to research: in quantum physics, string theory and loop quantum gravity; as well as experiments in less traditional areas, such as orgone energy, transmission of thoughts and teleportation.
The initial idea of the director Ilya Khrzhanovsky to create a film about Soviet physics in the process of implementation was transformed into a serious study of human nature and the psyche, which continues to this day. Of course, all this became possible with the support of a like-minded director - a major Russian philanthropist Sergei Adonyev and in collaboration with a powerful international creative team, including director of photography Jurgen Jurges, production designer Denis Shibanov, art director Katya Ertel and hundreds more people with vast and varied experience. After filming ended and the Institute was destroyed, DAU continued to exist in other contexts, attracting more and more new participants. The main character on the screen was the famous conductor Theodor Currentzis. The experiment also involved contemporary artists Marina Abramovich, Karsten Heller, Boris Mikhailov and Philip Parreno; directors Peter Sellars, Romeo Castelllucci, Anatoly Vasiliev; designer Ray Kawakubo; musicians Brian Eno and Robert del Nye from Massive Attack. The films were voiced by actresses Isabelle Adjani, Fanny Ardan, Isabelle Huppert, Charlotte Rampling, Iris Berben, Hannah Shigulla, Barbara Zukova, actors Gerard Depardieu, Willem Dafoe, Lars Eidinger and others.
Films created from film shot at the Institute will be presented for the first time in Paris and will continue to exist on the digital platform DAU Digital, available online. The release of the feature film "Dow" will take place later. Dates will be announced later.
