MOSCOW. The Tretyakov Gallery opened a festival of cinema about the art of PERFORM.

The number of names and events inscribed in the history of art is not quantifiable. Examples of festivals dedicated to this area of spiritual culture are single. Moscow PERFORM is one of them. The success of the first season, in which 16 bands took part, left no doubt about the need to continue. The logic of the choice of sites for the demonstration of films about painting and artists in the Tretyakov Gallery, the Artplay design center, the Museon art park and the Oktyabr movie center, the decoration of the facade and interior interiors of which the well-known artists worked is quite obvious.

The second season of PERFORM was opened on July 4 in the Engineering Building of the Tretyakov Gallery. The educational function and its goal remained unchanged - the introduction of a wide audience to the world of art, the story of the processes occurring in it, the study of the role of the individual in this field. Films included in the sections of the current festival program tell of the reformers, whose creative search leads to revolutionary changes, the destruction of foundations, the emergence of new trends and bright names.

Within the framework of the Golden Age of Modernism program, viewers are introduced to films devoted to the history of this trend in Russia and abroad. The section presents the tapes of French filmmakers about one of the largest storages of masterpieces of impressionists and post-impressionists: the French museum of Musee d’Orsay, the self-taught artist Henri Rousseau, the history of the creation of Rodin’s masterpiece «The Gates of Hell», and the history of the Stein- Patrons, collectors, who influenced the formation of modern art. Here is the German play tape about the talented expressionist artist Paul Moderzon-Becker and co-production of Britain and Russia about the origins of the Russian avant-garde.

In the section «Provocators and legends» - films about the representatives of Moscow actionism, the unfinished creation of Dali, the tragic and scandalous story of Egon Schiele. The program of special orders includes tapes of American documentaries about the cultural center of the avant-garde director Robert Wilson and the legendary photographer Rose Hartman. A special mention deserves a piercing tape directed by Ivan Oganesov about his father. Fedor Oganesov-Nevezhin chose the path of asceticism and seclusion for the sake of art and spiritual quest.

The festival began with a film by Tatiana Rakhmanova, director and playwright from St. Petersburg, about the famous Silver Age philanthropist Sergei Shchukin. Collected by him a grand collection of modern paintings - Gauguin, Cezanne, Monet, Pissarro, Matisse - was nationalized by the Bolsheviks after the revolution.
