Enlightenment, research, spiritual quest at the PERFORM festival Automatic translate
MOSCOW. At the Tretyakov Gallery, the PERFORM film festival about art has opened.
The number of names and events inscribed in the history of art is not calculable. Examples of festivals dedicated to this area of spiritual culture are rare. Moscow PERFORM is one of them. The success of the first season, in which 16 films took part, left no doubt about the need to continue. The logic of choosing sites for demonstrating films about paintings and artists at the Tretyakov Gallery, the Artplay Design Center, the Museon art park and the Oktyabr cinema center, where famous artists worked on the facade and interior design, is quite obvious.
The second season of PERFORM opened on July 4 in the Engineering Building of the Tretyakov Gallery. The educational function and its purpose remained unchanged - the introduction of a wide audience to the world of art, a story about the processes taking place in it, a study of the role of the individual in this area. Films included in the sections of the program of the current festival tell about reformers whose creative search leads to revolutionary changes, the destruction of foundations, the emergence of new trends and vivid names.
Within the framework of the Golden Age of Modernism program, viewers get acquainted with films devoted to the history of this trend in Russia and abroad. The section presents tapes of French cinematographers about one of the largest repositories of the masterpieces of impressionists and post-impressionists - the French Museum Orsay (Musée d’Orsay), about the self-taught artist Henri Russo, about the history of the creation of the Rodin masterpiece "The Gates of Hell", as well as about the history of the Stein family - patrons, collectors who influenced the formation of contemporary art. Here is a German feature film about the talented expressionist artist Paul Moderson-Becker and co-production of Great Britain and Russia about the origins of the Russian avant-garde.
In the section "Provocateurs and Legends" - films about representatives of Moscow actionism, the unfinished creation of Dali, the tragic and scandalous story of Egon Schiele. The program of special shows includes films by American documentaries about the cultural center of avant-garde director Robert Wilson and the legendary photographer Rose Hartman. A piercing tape directed by Ivan Oganesov about his father deserves special mention. Fedor Oganesov-Nevezhin chose the path of penance and seclusion for the sake of art and spiritual pursuit.
The festival began with a film by the director and playwright from St. Petersburg Tatyana Rakhmanova about the famous philanthropist of the Silver Age Sergey Schukin. His grandiose collection of paintings by modernists - Gauguin, Cezanne, Monet, Pissarro, Matisse - was nationalized by the Bolsheviks after the revolution.
