MOSCOW. For the first time, Russian viewers saw an unusual version of the story of the great seducer, created by the imagination of an American playwright. Don Nigro created his tragedy (only a genre should include a play where heroes find themselves in situations that turn from tragedy to comedy) in 2008, using the libretto of the famous opera Amadeus Mozart, where the author called Don Juan “The Punished Libertine”.

As in the Mozart opera, the play “Don Giovanni” contains classic characters, only now they have become equal partners in the adventures that fell to their lot. In the premiere performance, in the role of Don Giovanni, the audience saw Dmitry Pevtsov, and in the image of Leporello - Alexander Samoilenko. In the same roles in the future it will be possible to see Gosha Kutsenko and Mikhail Policeitsimako.

Together with the director Viktor Shamirov, the artist Olga Nikitina worked on the performance. The scene she designed looks like a ruined ancient Roman temple. Seeing the artists appearing among the columns, the audience expects that pathos will now sound. However, the text spoken by the characters is fundamentally different from what the audience expected, and the jokes on the stage sound very specific. Only the music of Mozart recalls the classics here.
