"The New Examiner" - Gogol read by Mark Rozovsky at the Nikitsky Gate Theater Automatic translate

MOSCOW. More than once, Mark Rozovsky turned to the work of Gogol, each time surprising the audience with his unusual stage reading of the work of the great writer. Shown to viewers on February 2-3, the new production of the theater “At the Nikitsky Gate” gathered several Gogolian works at once. Mark Rozovsky often himself writes the staging of works selected for staging in his theater, without denying himself the pleasure of translating them on stage.

The intrigue began already with the name of the premiere performance. On the poster, it looks like a “New Auditor." Indeed, the famous “Inspector General” became the basis of the performance, however, thanks to Mark Grigorievich, it included episodes from “Dead Souls”, “Overcoat”, “Theater Travel”. The next intrigue of the play, to the surprise of the audience, was the reproduction of the characters of famous works. The Khlestakovs became especially numerous - there are seven of them on the stage.

Rozovsky says about the created Gogoliad that such a reading of Gogol’s works on the stage has never happened before. Mark Grigoryevich is convinced of the correct approach to the production, because Gogol has always been distinguished by a variety of fantasies. The "new auditor" became their embodiment. Numerous Khlestakovs during the performance transform into Gogol, and then into storytellers, into officials working in the public service.

Out of the multiplicity that completely confuses the audience, with difficulty understanding who is who, real devilry is born. The main thing is that such an approach of the director was interesting to the public. They especially have fun in the hall when Gorodnichny, dressed in the fashion of his time, tries to solve quite modern issues and claims that the newly laid marble floor creaks. The reaction of the audience had to be seen - it is difficult to convey in words.
