SVETLOGORSK. In the resort town of Svetlogorsk, Kaliningrad Region, yesterday, July 26, the XI International Film Festival “Baltic Debuts” started. As part of the film forum, which has already become traditional, screenings will be held of both new films by Russian directors and this year’s foreign works. According to the organizers, the festival is a platform for the cultural exchange of experience of domestic filmmakers and directors from other countries of the Baltic region.
The film “Opening of the Baltic Debuts” this year was the film “Battle for Sevastopol” directed by Sergey Mokritsky, which was a great success at the Russian box office. The international jury of the festival, led by director Vladimir Khotinenko, includes Severia Janusauskaite, Raimo O. Niemi, Johnny O. Reilly and Jörg Langer.
As part of the festival, viewers will be presented with new films by famous directors from Russia, Estonia, Germany, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, France, Norway and Lithuania. In addition, the film forum will be filled with special events - master classes, discussions and creative meetings. Russia at the Baltic Debuts will be presented by the films Two Women, Under Electric Clouds, Once Upon a Time, Star and Heirs.
The festival closes on July 30 with a screening of the movie "Moscow Never Sleeps" directed by Johnny O. Reilly. The Baltic Debuts first took place in 2004, and since then the film forum has been a large-scale annual cultural event in the region.
