MOSCOW. The jubilee XX International Human Rights Film Festival "STALKER" ended with the presentation of awards to the winners. More than 14 thousand spectators were able to watch the program of competitive shows of the show. In total, the short list of the competition dedicated to the protection of human rights contained 29 documentaries. The jury of this year’s festival was composed by producer Raisa Fomina, filmmakers Evgeny Tsymbal, Vladimir Gerchikov, Elena Tsyplakova and Vadim Abdrashitov.
The main prize of the STALKER film festival for the best documentary was received by a member of the Non-Fiction Film Guild Andrei Osipov for the film Koktebel Pebbles. The prize for the best debut in documentary won the film "Rebald" directed by Elena Otrepieva.
Also the STALKER prizes were awarded to the documentaries “Varlam Shalamov. The experience of a young man ”directed by Pavel Pechenkin and“ In Search of a Swan ”directed by Usman Saparov. The special prize named after actor George Zhzhenov received the documentary painting “House of the Military. Eluding Steel Embrace ”directed by Igor Grigoriev. The film "Dodik" directed by Anna Yevtushenko was awarded a special prize named after the director Sergei Govorukhin.
The STALKER Human Rights Film Festival received a special prize from the UN Office in Russia with the wording “For many years of contribution to building a civil society in Russia through cinema and for serving the ideals of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights”.
On festival days, in the foyer of the Great Hall of the Central House of Cinematographers in Moscow, the exhibition "The War Taken" was held. The canvases depicted those about whom the authors of paintings had read in books, newspapers or on the Internet, whose faces they remembered and touched the stories. So, portraits of Camille Lepage, Vyacheslav Veremi, Anton Voloshin and Igor Kornelyuk, James Fowley and others were presented at the exhibition.
The international human rights film festival "STALKER" has been held since 1995. The organizer of the film forum is the Guild of Film Directors of Russia. The president of the film festival is People’s Artist of the USSR Marlene Hutsiev. The goal of STALKER is to summarize the outgoing cinematic year and present the best Russian documentaries about human rights to the audience.
