The BDT hosted the premiere of the play based on the novel by Chernyshevsky Automatic translate

ST. PETERSBURG. In the BDT’s repertoire, a performance appeared based on the main work from the heritage of N. Chernyshevsky, known from school years. However, in the stage reading of the novel by the artistic director of the BDT Andrey Moguchy, the title of the novel “lost” a question mark. The performance, which premiered last weekend, is now called "What to Do."

The performance was written by Petersburg playwrights Alexander Artyomov and Dmitry Yushkov. According to the director, the final stage version of the play was created during rehearsals - the original text changed, dialogs were added, the improvisations of the actors were included. Often rehearsals became like a discussion club - there were a lot of sharp and tough polemics, opinions and positions of participants in the play clashed.

The performance of the main roles in the play was entrusted to the young generation of BDT artists. Some of them are the trainee group of the theater. At the beginning of the performance, eminent masters appear on the stage - I. Vengalite and G. Shtil. They play the roles of parents of Vera Pavlovna. The play “What to do” was the first large-scale work of the theater staff after the reconstruction of the building on the Fontanka embankment.

As the director noted, several generations of compatriots tried to find the answer to the question posed by Chernyshevsky in his novel, however, it does not exist today. The problems of today are becoming a provocation for society, forcing them to ask again, but still not find the answer.

The author of the design of the stage space, Alexander Shishkin, came up with a peculiar solution, turning the hall into an audience, and the stage into a pulpit. After the end of the chapter, the title of which is broadcast on the screen, the author appeared in the play, conducts a dialogue with the audience.
