COTTBUS. The Russian film Correction Class directed by Ivan Tvardovsky received the Grand Prix at the 24th International Film Festival of East European Cinema, held last week in Cottbus (Germany). Also, the finalists were awarded a cash prize of 20 thousand euros.
“We are sincerely glad to receive the Grand Prix of the most respected film festival in Eastern Europe. This prize says that we are closer to each other than it seems. We have common cultural codes, common interests, shared pain and joy, ”said film producer Natalya Mokritskaya.
The film “Correction Class” by the director-debutant Ivan Twardovsky is already the owner of the Grand Prix of the “East to West” competition of the international film festival held in Karlovy Vary and the prizes “For Best Actress” and “Best Director” of the Pacific Meridian International Film Festival.
Twardowski’s painting tells about adolescents who study in the “correction class” - a special class created for children with developmental problems, and not so much physical as moral. All of them are on the verge of adulthood, where their first love and first betrayal awaits them.
For the first time, the film festival of East European cinema was held in Cottbus in 1991 and since then it has become considered the most prestigious festival in Eastern Europe. The festival program is diverse - these are short and full-length film contests, the German-Polish competition of young directors “U18”, special programs: “Russian Day”, “Focus”, “Polish Horizons”, “Retrospectives”, “Children’s Films”, “East” and National Hits.
