With this performance, based on the famous Lermontov poem and Rubinstein’s opera, the artists celebrated the bicentennial of Mikhail Lermontov.

For a stage reading of the story of the Demon and his lover described in the poem, the director chose the format of the opera in one act. The result of the work was a performance in which the plot was the love line of the main characters. They did not dare to stage the opera completely in the theater. The director considered that the possibilities of the stage for a large production are not enough, and regular theatergoers are not ready for a big opera.

Not so long ago, Alexander Saprunov staged in the theater "Eugene Onegin", warmly received by the public, and now his new work has appeared in the Ryazan musical repertoire. The premiere of "Demon" ended with enthusiastic applause from the audience present. After the performance, the director expressed confidence that in the future it is possible to stage a larger volume.

The leading artist of the theater Alexei Sviridov appeared on the stage as the Demon, and the role of Tamara became the debut for Irina Volikova. Although the performance looks chamber in appearance, the production is quite dynamic; both choir compositions - male and female - take part in it. Of the total composition of the soloists, two-thirds were involved in the performance, since there were a large number of mass scenes.

It is interesting that now in the repertoire of Ryazan theaters there are two "Demons". One of them was staged at the Puppet Theater several years ago, and the second “Demon” can now be seen in the musical theater.
