MOSCOW. Every fan of Roman Viktyuk’s work knows that the director always celebrates his birthday with the premiere of his new work. This year, according to tradition, on the stage of the theater. The Moscow City Council Viktyuk presented a performance dedicated to the Chernobyl tragedy.
The play, which became the basis of the play, was written by the young playwright Pavel Arie. The metropolitan audience first met with the work of a 25-year-old author from Lviv, currently living in Germany. Viktyuk voiced the reason for choosing the play in an interview with media representatives who attended the dress rehearsal.
The director spoke about the shock he experienced after reading the play. The events described in the play took place before the birth of its author, but the playwright perceives the misfortune of people, many of whom have already passed away, as their own. It is important not to forget about the tragedy that affected the fates of people, doing everything possible so that it could not happen again.
The play tells about the life of a family remaining to live in a zone contaminated with radiation. There are only three of them - grandmother, her daughter and grandson. The grandson was already 28 years old, but he remained a child by reason. That was what made the Chernobyl disaster. He lives in his own world, he never saw another life and people, but he knows that there is a “not zone”, and there is another, normal life. The questions he asks cannot always be answered.
The story of the grandmother about the round time that exists in their world, where you can live at the same time at its end and beginning, was the reason for the name of the play. The final at the performance is sad - the main character dies, and the whole family, to which he gave strength for life, leaves behind.
With this performance, Roman Viktyuk will open his theater after repair, and now he is waiting for the audience of St. Petersburg, where on November 1 he will be held in the House of Culture of the Leningrad City Council.
