NOVOSIBIRSK. From the 15th to the 21st of September the 17th international documentary film festival “Meetings in Siberia” will be held at the Pobeda City Cinema The organizer of the festival is the inter-regional public organization “Meetings in Siberia”. The event is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Novosibirsk Region, the Novosibirsk branch of the Union of Cinema of Russia, the Novosibirsk City Hall, and the German Cultural Center Goethe and the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. In Novosibirsk, the festival is held for the fifth time.
The festival opened with a screening of the Oscar-winning documentary “Two Steps from Glory,” provided by the festival’s new partner, the 24DOC television channel. In 2013, the picture was recognized as the best documentary, for which it received the Oscar. Also in the framework of the festival will be shown the legendary film "Kon-Tiki" (1949), telling about the exploits of the traveler Tour Heyerdahl.
In addition to the main program, thematic events will be held at the film festival. One of them is dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the People’s Artist of the USSR Arnold Mikhailovich Katz, the other is dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the birth of the Russian Soviet film director and screenwriter Vasily Makarovich Shukshin. At events dedicated to these great people who have contributed to the development of cinema, rare shots of documentaries with their participation will be shown, as well as the book Kalina Gorka by Nina Veselova will be presented. In addition, two new documentary films “Bulat Yusupov School” (Ufa) and “Flahertiana” (Perm) will be presented as part of the film festival.
