MOSCOW. From the 18th to the 22nd of October the premieres of a musical performance on the stage of the Moscow Musical Theater, staged based on A. Green’s beloved story by many from his youth “Scarlet Sails”. The work, created by the popular composer Maxim Dunaevsky in collaboration with the authors of the libretto of the play Mikhail Bartenev and Andrei Usachev, has already been delivered in several Russian cities.
In 2012, versions of the play staged almost simultaneously in three major theaters of Russia (Sverdlovsk Musical Comedy, Perm Theater and Globus from Novosibirsk), claimed a prize in the competition “The Musical Heart of the Theater”. According to Maxim Dunaevsky, “Scarlet Sails” has already been delivered by 18 theater groups.
The Moscow version of the play is distinguished by a larger-scale stage design; its space is filled with a grandiose stage construction made in the form of a combination of a deck and wings. The author of this development is the artist Gleb Filshtinsky.
The director of the performance, Dmitry Belov, together with the choreographer Elena Bogdanovich, very inventively mastered the proposed space, creating many fleeting images. The costumes for the characters of the musical were created by the artist Olga Shagalina, combining the “steampunk” style and urban fantasy in them.
According to her, this style organically combines elements of futurism with the romanticism of the past. The play does not indicate the time when this eternal story takes place, it does not matter. The main thing is that the problem raised in it is immortal. The music of Maxim Dunaevsky has become closer to modern youth rhythms. The author of the arrangement is Eugene Zagot.
Moscow spectators appreciated the grandiose spectacle that appeared before them with long applause.
