MOSCOW. The musical theater, bearing the name of two theatrical maestros at once - Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko, presented the audience the first premiere this year. The first performance of 2013 was the staging of the genre beloved by the audience - the operetta “The Merry Widow”, written by Franz Lehar.

However, Adolf Shapiro, who became the director of the production, noted that in the operetta some changes and improvisations are quite possible, this is a good popular theater genre. Since many of the jokes included in the libretto text were outdated, Shapiro himself had to start writing texts and monologues, and Vadim Zhuk was instructed to create poetic texts.

For Adolf Shapiro, working in the operetta genre is his debut. This famous director works mostly with dramatic productions. However, in this theater he managed to stage Donizetti’s opera Lucia di Lammémur, for which he was awarded the Golden Mask Prize. The musical director of the performance is the national artist Wolf Gorelik, who has solid experience working with the operetta.

The author of the decoration for The Merry Widow was the famous theater artist Alexander Shishkin. He works in collaboration with such masters as Yu. Butusov, A. Moguchy. Shishkin received the Golden Mask several times for his work, but the musical performance in his rich theatrical experience is only the second. Earlier, the artist designed the performance at the Conservatory of St. Petersburg.

“The Merry Widow” continues the traditions of the Musical Theater, because it was with the production of the operetta “Daughter of Ango” that his story began, and then many more funny musical stories were sung from his stage. On the day of Stanislavsky’s anniversary, the theater director’s gift was “An Evening of Classical Operetta”.
