ST. PETERSBURG. The Monocle International Festival will open on January 25 with the solo performance of Notes of a Madman, presented by the young artist Alexander Khudyakov on the small stage of the Baltic House. Over a long period of existence (the festival is being held for the ninth time), which takes place every two years, the festival of solo performances has its own traditions.
Based on the established order of its holding, the festival’s work is divided into two stages. The days of the first festival stage were given to the artists of St. Petersburg. Until February 18th, various scenic venues of the city will provide a place to display 16 solo performances. A competent jury will choose two works to participate in the international stage of the festival.
The festival poster shines with a variety of repertoire. It presents performances based on the works of our contemporaries and classical literature, poetry and prose, Russian and foreign authors. Actress Lidia Kopina will present the Settimana plastic one-man show, and the representative of the older generation, People’s Artist Nikolai Marton, will show the one-man show “Monologues in the Tsar’s Foyer” created by him. In his performance, the theater audience will hear ten monologues of the famous heroes of the plays of the classical repertoire.
A popular play by Nikolai Kolyada “Little Girl with a Little Girl” Natalya Lesnichaya will present modern drama, and poetry by Marina Tsvetaeva and Elena Schwartz will be performed in poetic performances. “A Man with an Umbrella”, performed by Victoria Zaitseva, included verses of the famous Leonid Yengibarov, a clown who keeps autumn in his heart.
Starting from March 1st, the second stage of the festival will take place - international, with the participation of two best Petersburg artists.
