"Winter Daydreams" graduates of the Moscow Conservatory Automatic translate
MOSCOW. In the Great Hall of the Conservatory, the festival "Winter Dreams" has completed its work.
The main idea of “Dreams” partly echoes the concept of the “Return” festival. The meeting of graduates of a musical university, who became masters, laureates, virtuosos, performance of rare chamber and orchestral works - this is also famous for the brainchild of Roman Mints and Dmitry Bulgakov. Yes, and the schedule of both events seemed to combine them into a semantic whole. “Return” ended on January 15, “Daydreams” replaced him on the 16th and lasted three evenings. But if graduates of the conservatory and the Gnesinka participate in the first festival, the second is conceived as a kind of “exhibition of achievements” of teachers and students of the Tchaikovsky MGK, which celebrated its 150th anniversary last year. The list of those who received a fundamental education here includes many outstanding musicians.
One of the main initiators of the new festival was the representative of the cellist dynasty, laureate of the first prize of the XIII Tchaikovsky Competition, an MGK graduate, the soloist of the Moscow Philharmonic, Sergei Antonov. The idea was realized thanks to the support of the rector Alexander Sokolov. The highlight of the gala concert on the first day of the festival was “creative duels”. Throughout the evening, clarinetist Valentin Uryupin, cellists Anton Pavlovsky and Sergey Antonov presented themselves in different roles to the audience, performing works by Bernstein, Dvorak, Enescu, Rossini, Tchaikovsky, Gershwin. They alternately stood up for the conductor’s console, and after that they picked up their instruments, symbolically competing with each other in the ability to be a virtuoso in different forms.
The program of the second day harmoniously combined music and word. The version for two cellos, viola, two violins and a reader - Beethoven’s “Kreutzer Sonata” and Leo Tolstoy’s eponymous novel was performed by the Moscow Art Theater actor Anatoly Bely, violinists Nikita Borisoglebsky and Eugene Stembolsky, cellists Sergey Antonov and Anton Pavlovsky Antonov Antonov. The second compartment was given to the beautiful octet for winds and strings by Franz Schubert.
At the close, the audience plunged into Tchaikovsky’s Winter Dreams, heard Beethoven’s rare romance for violin and orchestra, and enjoyed the Concerto No. 1 of Shostakovich and the tarantella Pablo de Sarasate. The laureate of international competitions, pianist Ekaterina Mechetina, took part in the concerts of the festival.
