-Only Valery Gergiev’s orchestra traveled to 19 countries of the world with Prokofiev’s repertoire… And how surprisingly productive was the Year of Prokofiev! The composer’s repertoire appeared on all the largest music venues in the world as an integral part… I think that if we reach the same result for the Stravinsky year (in 2017), it will be wonderful, it will promote our national culture, our national music, our wonderful composers, ”said Alexander Zhuravsky at the ceremony .
The opening of the monument in Kamergersky Lane, where Sergei Prokofiev lived, was dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the great composer. Valery Gergiev, artistic director and director of the Mariinsky Theater, said that the first work he performed at the Mariinsky Theater many years ago was the opera War and Peace. He called Prokofiev Mozart of the 20th century.
-I am absolutely sure that we are honoring today one of the greatest composers, if you will, Mozart of the 20th century. There were no such melodicists as Prokofiev in the 20th century. Composers equal to the talent of Sergey Sergeyevich will appear on earth soon, ” Valery Gergiev emphasized, noting that the appearance of the monument to Prokofiev in Moscow is no coincidence. Here Prokofiev created. He loved Moscow, he studied in St. Petersburg, he was born near Donetsk, he belongs to the whole world, but, above all, to you and me. This is the case when you don’t have to tell anyone why this composer is great, why we should be proud of him. Everything by itself came to the point that we began to perceive him as Tchaikovsky
The author of the monument, Andrei Kovalchuk , told the creation of the sculpture, to which he was inspired by the photo of the Maestro “in motion”. He portrayed Sergei Prokofiev with notes in his hands, going in the direction of Tverskaya Street. At the same time, the composer’s eyes are turned towards the museum, located in house number 6, where he lived.
In the Museum of S.S. Prokofiev (All-Russian Museum Association of Musical Culture named after M. I. Glinka) on the same day opened a new permanent exhibition "Composer, ahead of time." The main theme of the exposition is the work of a versatile and brilliant musician. This is described in 6 sections of the exhibition: piano performance and compositions for piano; symphonic creation; chamber instrumental compositions; opera and ballet; music for the movie. The exhibition demonstrates rarities from the collection of the Museum Association associated with the name of Sergei Sergeyevich Prokofiev. These are autographs of musical compositions, drafts, letters to famous cultural figures, personal belongings of the composer. A special place is occupied by the installation of the cabinet, where the composer created works, made friends, among which there were many musicians. According to the memoirs of loved ones, among the home decoration items of Sergey Sergeyevich, only three things were of interest: a piano, a desk and a comfortable armchair. At the table, the composer worked, read, played solitaire or played chess, in a chair he considered the plans of new compositions.
