ST. PETERSBURG. An unexpected and joyful find awaited the employees of the library of the Conservatory of St. Petersburg when moving to a new building. Sheet music of the little-known “Funeral Song” I.F. Stravinsky, who were considered permanently lost, were found in the library warehouse, which was unavailable to employees until the move.

The duration of the work is no more than 12 minutes. It was created in 1908 in memory of another great composer, Rimsky-Korsakov, who was a teacher of Stravinsky. The work was performed only once, a year after writing, at the first concert, arranged in memory of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. Experts note an interesting feature of the work: the double bass part will subsequently almost completely repeat the introduction to the most famous ballet of the composer Firebird.

After Stravinsky’s emigration, the notes were considered untimely lost during the October Revolution. According to the library, in 1958 these notes were subject to cancellation, so the fact that they were preserved can be considered a real miracle.
