One hundred and fifty book rarities and autographs were sold at the ’Litfond’ auction.
ST. PETERSBURG. In the northern capital, II auction of rare books was held.
The protracted crisis, the outflow of capital and the decline in the activity of potential buyers inevitably affect the auction sector. Organizers of sales of intellectual rarities are getting used to price moderation and more thoroughness in the selection of rarities exposed for auction. The period of adaptation to new realities is in full swing, although true treasures find new owners in any situation.
At the Second auction of the Litfond held on March 4, less than half of the lots were sold. But what! In the complete works of Lomonosov 1803-1804. Included a considerable number of unknown works of the scientist and poet unknown to the general public. Considerable interest was caused by ladies’ salon albums with poems by Pushkin and poets of his circle in luxurious bindings, with engravings and illustrations. In good hands, the eighth book of the famous almanac Northern Flowers was published, published in 1832 in memory of its founder Anton Delvig in favor of his family on the initiative of Pushkin. Interested participants of the auction and souvenir tablecloth with the image of the card, issued after the opening of the railway communication between Moscow and St. Petersburg in 1851.
In a family, a rare edition of Mauritius Wolff will be transmitted from generation to generation - the four-language dictionary «Favorite Children’s Book», «Stevenson’s Treasure Island», published by the famous popularizer of scientific achievements and the discoverer of a new direction in book publishing Peter Soykin. Someone’s collections were filled with books and photos with autographs by Maximilian Voloshin, Valery Bryusov, and also one of the founders of constitutional law in Russia, Boris Chicherin.
Pleased with the auction and fans of painting. Among the lots sold are a complete collection of engravings by the Dutch artist Adrian van Ostade, «Notes of the Rector of the Academy of Arts of Jordan» from the collection of the legendary bibliophile Yakov Grebenshchikov, rare editions with works by Grigoriev, Ermolaeva, Rozanova, Ostroumov-Lebedeva, Burliuk, Chagall. Great interest was caused by poetic collections and drawings of the poet, artist, translator Vladimir Aleinikov, presented in the section «The Second Russian Avant-Garde».
