Andersen Award Winners Announced Automatic translate
BOLOGNA. Unanimous jury selection of the Little Nobel Prize in Literature: names of 2016 Andersen Prize winners announced at the Book Fair.
The fame of Cao Wenxuan, the winner in the writer category, has long gone beyond the borders of his native China. For the first time, a prose writer from the Middle Kingdom managed not only to “break through” into the short list of the Andersen Prize, but also to become its owner. Cao Wenxuan is a professor at Peking University, vice president of the Writing Association. His works were first published more than 30 years ago. The touching and tragic plots of his works are close and understandable to everyone, despite their authenticity. Complex life ups and downs (largely autobiographical for the author), in which young characters find themselves, are taught their stamina, dedication, spiritual generosity. Are we talking about children with Down syndrome trying to survive in conditions that are not always favorable for them. Or about the trials that fell to the lot of heroes during the “cultural revolution”. Presentation of a prestigious literary prize to a remarkable Chinese prose writer is a good reason to finally introduce Russian readers to it.
In the category "artist-illustrator", the jury opted for Rotraut Susanne Berner from Germany. Her portfolio includes hundreds of covers and dozens of amazingly designed books for the younger generation. Children love such detailed illustrations with lots of small details. No less exciting than the text for which they are intended. Books designed by Berner, delight not only the younger generation, but also their parents. The artist turns them into unique tools for the development of speech, imagination and creative abilities of the child.
