MOSCOW. On June 6, the start of the first All-Russian contest “Letters in Poems” will start, organized by Alexandra Hamilton. The award is dedicated to her direct ancestor Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin.
Only children from 8 to 16 years old can take part in the creative competition. To do this, they must send their essays in the form of a poetic letter. The addressee of this kind of communication that has already become unusual in the world of modern correspondence can be like the poet A.S. Pushkin, and the literary heroes of his works. Dubrovsky, Eugene Onegin, Tatyana Larina, Boris Godunov, or the classic of Russian literature himself, are expected to receive letters by September 20 of this year.
The winners of the poetry contest will be determined in two age categories. The organizer of the award expects easy essays from children aged 8 to 12 years, which will be distinguished by a new understanding of the Pushkin world. From children 13-16 years old - letters that convey a deep awareness of the work of the classic, and the choice of original appeals to literary heroes. All works must be written in Pushkin’s native language.
The competitive selection will take place in two stages - first the selection committee will get acquainted with the submitted works, and then the special jury will evaluate the most interesting letters. The winners of the Letters in Poems Award will be announced on October 19, 2015.
Alexandra Hamilton, who is not only a direct descendant of the great Russian poet, but also an admirer of his work, is sure that the new project will make his works “family and friends” for the younger generation.
