MOSCOW. On Saturday, June 6, all of Russia will celebrate Pushkin Day, or the day of the Russian language. Celebrations and events dedicated to the 216th birthday of the great Russian poet Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin will be held in different cities.
So, in Moscow, traditionally, the main arena of the holiday will be Pushkin Square. Various thematic fairs will be held here, including a folk crafts fair and a book fair. The organizers also prepared holiday concerts, poetry readings, various contests for children and adults, folk games and quizzes, costume performances and round dances.
A grandiose event is also expected at VDNH - scenes from the opera of P.I. Tchaikovsky "Eugene Onegin." The themes of the opera will be supported by a historical reconstruction organized on the territory of the Green Theater: parade crews, couples in love in themed costumes and duelists.
Entertainment awaits Muscovites and guests of the capital and other areas of the city. Starting from Friday, all city libraries will launch thematic programs - “My friend Pushkin”, “At the Lukomorye green oak”, “Pushkin’s profile”, “His feather breathes love with love”, “Fairy Lukomorye” and others. Even some restaurants privately also decided to maintain the atmosphere of Pushkin Day and announced poetry readings.
In other cities, holiday events are also expected. So, in St. Petersburg at noon a festive ceremony will begin near the monument to the poet, which will flow into extensive festivities. There will be free entrance to the museum-apartment on Moika embankment, 12. In Tsarskoye Selo (Pushkin) you can also visit the Lyceum and the Pushkin Museum-Cottage for free. In Suide, where the estate of Pushkin’s great-grandfather is located, poetry readings will be held. In Gatchina, on Cathedral Street, a thematic concert and carnival will be held. In Kobrino, near the house of the nanny of the poet Arina Rodionovna, an ethnographic family holiday will be organized. And in Pskov, the program of Pushkin Day in Russia consists of a wide variety of events that will last three days.
Note that the Pushkin Day of Russia (previously the Pushkin Poetry Festival) was established in 1998 by decree of the President of the Russian Federation. The celebration was established on June 6, the birthday of the great Russian writer and poet.
