The letters of the Grimm brothers appeared on the network Automatic translate
CASSEL. On the official website of the University of Kassel in Germany, a message appeared that the digitized letters and documents of German storytellers and linguists Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm, as well as their family members, are now available for free viewing on the Internet. All scanned copies are available on the pages of the university website.
More than 37 thousand texts belonging to the Grimm family and dating from 1698 to 1949 were digitized by the university staff in conjunction with the State Land Archives of Gössen in Marburg. This process took three years. All the original letters and documents were transferred to the state archive by the great-grandson of Wilhelm Grimm - Marco Plock.
The published letters reflect significant events in the personal lives of the Grimm brothers and their family. So, for example, from one of the letters the reader will be able to learn how three-year-old Wilhelm and four-year-old Jacob congratulated their father on his birthday. In another message, young Jacob shares his impressions of studying at the Lyceum. And from another text, the reader learns that William participated in a protest against professors at the University of Gottingen in 1837.
It is worth recalling that the Brothers Grim became famous thanks to their fairy tales “Cinderella”, “Snow White”, “Sleeping Beauty”, “Bremen Town Musicians”, “Little Red Riding Hood” and “The Wolf and the Seven Little Kids”. In total, more than 200 fairy tales came out from the pen of folklorists; cartoons and films were shot based on many of them. As researchers of German folklore, culture and mythology, Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm are considered the founding fathers of Germanic philology and Germanic studies.
