The organizers devoted May 21 to the 70th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War, May 22 to the Year of Literature in Russia, May 23 will be marked by children’s literature, and May 24 they will organize events dedicated to the Day of Slavic Writing. Also within the framework of the book salon, the ceremony of awarding beginners with the Unknown Petersburg Prize and the Gogol Prize, initiated by the Union of Writers of St. Petersburg, will be held.
“In the age of computerization, you need to remind people as often as possible that nothing can compare with a living book. And it is imperative to instill a love of the mother tongue and native literature for our children and youth, ”the Governor of St. Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko shared his thoughts at the opening ceremony of the salon.
The X International Book Salon is held under the slogan "Together we are reading Petersburg." This year, the organizers decided to create a citywide holiday that could unite all the residents. A whole book block has unfolded in the center of the city. Manezhnaya Square and the adjacent streets: Klenovaya, Italianskaya, Malaya Sadovaya and Karavannaya, as well as the Mikhailovsky Manege were involved in the literary salon. It is estimated that for 4 days of the forum, it will be visited by about 170 thousand residents and guests of the city. Famous Russian authors - Yakov Gordin, Janush Vishnevsky, Narine Agabaryan, Denis Dragunsky, Alexander Kabakov and Alexander Sekatsky will take part in the events of the salon.
