MOSCOW. The awarding ceremony for the winners of the New Pushkin Prize for 2015 was held on May 26 at the metropolitan Pushkin Museum. For the first time, the Prize Council drew attention to children’s creativity. In the Year of Literature, children became pupils of the Laboratory for Work with Gifted Children at the Gaidar Moscow City Library.
Girls and boys between the ages of 7 and 12 declared their small works from the stage. Members of the jury and guests of the event spellbound listened to gifted children, and vigorously applauded their talented poems, stories and tales. The chairman of the jury, writer Andrei Bitov, noted that the children who performed on this stage are creators who have their own view of the world and sincere feelings. He also believes that children’s creativity "is initially more powerful than their knowledge, and even more so inert experience." Children need to instill confidence in their capabilities, and professional teachers will do this at the Pushkin State Museum-Reserve Mikhailovskoye, where prize winners will be invited to stay this summer.
The great-great-granddaughter of A.S. was a special guest of the award this year. Pushkin Duchess Alexandra Abercorn, Consul of the Russian Federation in Northern Ireland. She noted that “the prize was awarded to the whole team, children who write very good texts. I think this is a very good and Pushkin decision. If Pushkin had heard these voiced children’s voices, he would have been happy. "
Also, one adult became the laureate of the New Pushkin Prize - the artist Konstantin Sutyagin was awarded with a special diploma “For the harmony of words and image” for his literary cycle “About Happiness”.
