ST. PETERSBURG. On March 23, the grand opening of the program of the Year of Literature 2015 in St. Petersburg took place on the new stage of the Alexandrinsky Theater. Events in the framework of the celebration began with the foyer of the theater - a large-scale book exhibition and fair was organized here, at which the leading Russian publishers presented their literary novelties. Also, in public corners of the spaces of the new stage, shows of modern media poetry, poetry readings, “creative duels” and presentations of other relevant literary forms were organized.
After the official part of the celebration, guests were expected to see a theatrical performance based on fragments of works by Russian classics. From the Alexandrinsky stage they were read by young artists Maria Kuznetsova, Olesya Sokolova, Julia Marchenko, Elena Vozhakina, Svetlana Smirnova, Semyon Sytnik, Pyotr Semak, Sergey Parshin, Vitaliy Kovalenko, Nikolai Marton, Victor Smirnov, the readings were accompanied by the leading artists of the theater.
It is worth noting that the Alexandrinsky Theater was not accidentally chosen as a platform for celebrating the opening of the Year of Literature 2015. The fact is that it was on this stage that the premieres of the Gogol’s “Inspector” and the Chekhov’s “The Seagull” were held for the first time, and L.N. Tolstoy, N.V. Gogol, A.S. Pushkin, I.S. Turgenev. M.U. Lermontov, A.P. Chekhov and F.M. Dostoevsky. Alexandrinka is rightfully considered the oldest national theater in Russia.
