MOSCOW. As part of the Year of Literature, the Russian government decided to pay more attention to the problem of reading and organizing access to library resources. So, on January 13, 2015, a new portal of the National Electronic Library was officially opened, which is now available to all Russians at the address neb.rf. Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev personally familiarized himself with the work of the electronic book resource, becoming one of its first users and receiving a library card.
“It seems to me that it is very important that there is an involvement, a demand for librarianship in modern life. In the combination of the historical, traditional approach to librarianship and the modern one, it seems to me that there is a future. I hope that we will not only observe how it is created in other countries, but we will also take an active part in it, ”Dmitry Medvedev said at the meeting.
The National Electronic Library (NEB) is a joint project of the Russian National Library, the Russian State Library and many regional libraries. Currently, the NEB archives contain literature from 6 federal and 27 regional libraries, which is more than 1.6 million digital copies of printed works - about 90% of electronic books in Russian public libraries. On the official website of the NEB you can find not only books, but also domestic abstracts and dissertations over the past fifteen years.
But fiction cannot be found here - only scientific and educational publications, technical literature, rare books, and a number of other valuable works were digitized within the project. But the founders of the project are going to further improve the NEB, and over time, a fiction section will appear on the resource.
