The unusual cookbook was written by their former Zurich chef, currently serving in the Vatican Guard, David Geisser, co-authored with Sergeant Erwin Niederberg, a pastry chef. In the book, which collected the gastronomic preferences of the popes, there is a recipe for Polish pies with potatoes, cabbage and meat, dearly loved by Pope John Paul II. And the authors wrote about Pope Francis that he is a big sweet tooth, his favorite dishes are Italian desserts and milk puddings. He is also a fan of steaks, which is not surprising since Pope Francis has Argentinean roots and Argentina is famous for its excellent beef.

The authors of the cookbook believe that people who follow the news of the Vatican will also be interested to know about the eating habits of other influential dignitaries. So, in the work it is written that the favorite delicacy of the Catholic Ecumenist Cardinal Kurt Koch’s Catholic Church is Milanese cutlets, the cardinal’s Secretary of State Pietro Parolina loves the Vatican Italian dumplings (“gnocchi”), and the personal secretary of the honorary Pope Georg Genswein is sage and ham ("stalimbocca in Roman").

While the cookbook is published only in German, and you can buy it only in Swiss stores. However, the authors are not discouraged, believing that in the near future their work will be translated into English, which will serve to wider distribution of the unusual cookbook.
