The story of Ivan Franko will publish a comic book Automatic translate

LVIV. The Leopol Publishing House is planning to release a 2-volume comic book in October, based on the novel by Ivan Franko’s “Hero of Will”. At the beginning of September, in the Lviv coffee-house and gallery "Stuka" Mihai Timoshenko, the artist and co-author of the project, together with the photographer and publisher Kirill Gorishin, presented to the public the original illustrations for the comic book.

“A few years ago, I picked up a book by Ivan Franko from a Soviet publishing house and realized that I don’t want to read this in this format. Comics based on the works of classics, Victor Hugo, for example, are very popular in France. In Ukraine, it is believed that comics are books with drawings for children about superheroes. The events of the poem are very similar to modern ones. Vibrant dialogs were easy to format into comics. The artist Mihai Timoshenko portrayed the characters of the then Lviv very well. Every time we consulted with historians, linguists, so that everything looked believable, ”publisher Kirill Gorishin said in a press release.

The work of Ivan Frank tells the story of a petty official Stepan Kalinovich, who worked as a clerk at the Lviv State Accountancy for half his life. But here in 1848 he fell into the maelstrom of the formed revolutionary movement "Spring of the Peoples", which captured Galicia and Europe. In his story, Ivan Franko pays particular attention to the national-cultural consciousness of society, the struggle for political views and freedom of citizens. Throughout the whole story, such relevant and valuable traits of a human character as heroism and solidarity during the period of the revolutionary movement are traced back to the era.

The creation of comic books on the novel “A Hero Involuntarily” has a deep documentary-research character. Ukrainian literature on the territory of Ukraine for the first time adapts to a graphic novel in which the script and drawings are used to convey the plot. The cost of a two-volume comic book "Hero of Reluctance" will be 100 hryvnia.
