NIZHNY NOVGOROD. “To see and save” - under this name, an exhibition of works by Wilmos Perprott Chub, a prominent representative of the Hungarian avant-garde, opened in the National Oil and Chemical Museum. A personal exhibition of the artist, organized in connection with the international festival Days of Hungary held in Nizhny Novgorod, is being shown in Russia for the first time.
The grand opening of the exposition, which houses works belonging to the Szentendre Ferenczi Museum, took place on June 13. Representatives of the Republic of Hungary arrived at the opening, including Gabor Guiyash, director of the Ferenczi Museum. The museum, named after one of the artist’s teachers, Karoy Ferenczi, houses a significant collection of works by Wilmos Perprott Chaba.
A variety of artistic trends influenced the development of the artist’s work. Many of his paintings were created under the influence of the works of Henri Matisse. In his works, among which there were many genre paintings, Vilmosh Chaba successfully combined the new styles that had just appeared with the traditions of national culture.
The first decade of the beginning of the century was for the artist a time of passion for the work of Cezanne, Gauguin and El Greco, which became noticeable in his works. Wilmosh Chaba later became a fan of German expressionism.
After another decade, views of the city of Szentendre are increasingly appearing on his canvases, and since the mid-forties, most of the work of Vilmos Čaba became devoted to the landscapes of this city. The exposition of the personal exhibition of Vilmos Čaba features landscapes of Hungary, painted by the artist at different times. Canvases with still lifes are also presented.
One of the first guests of the exhibition, open until July 16, was Sergey Gorin, the Minister of Culture of the region, who praised the work of the avant-garde master.
