"The picture of life, life in the picture" - the works of artists of the XIX - XX centuries from their funds presented the Yaroslavl Museum Automatic translate
YAROSLAVL. Employees of the Yaroslavl Art Museum for the first time presented the public with a large-scale exhibition from their collection of genre painting of historical subjects, calling it "The Picture of Life…". From April 16, visitors to the museum will be able to see works of art created by well-known art connoisseurs who worked in the 19th and 20th centuries, beginning from the second half of the 19th century and ending with the beginning of the 20th century.
The century of genre painting was called the nineteenth century. In these years, among artists-academics, paintings written on historical topics were considered the most important, because they depicted scenes of events that had a huge impact on history.
The paintings were dedicated to historical characters, thereby emphasizing the significance of the events depicted in the paintings. Wanderers in their work followed a different path, showing crucial historical moments in the country, depicting the lives of ordinary people. Artists sought to convey on their canvases their emotional attitude to current events
The Wanderers showed reality so that when you look at their work, a desire for change for the better appears. Later, morality leaves the works of artists, and in return there is admiration for the surrounding world. In the work of the Wanderers, the household genre has reached its peak.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the division into genres became rather arbitrary, as artists began to strive to reflect all aspects of life in their works. So the historical and everyday genre was born. The exhibition, which contains the works of Nikolai Ge, Viktor Vasnetsov, Ivan Kulikov and other artists not too well known to the public, can trace the development of the historical and everyday genre.
The exhibition is open until September 4.
