NIZHNY NOVGOROD. In connection with the receipt of the State Oil Museum of Moscow two historical paintings from the collection of the St. Petersburg Institute. Repin, sponsored by Nizhny Novgorod artists Vyacheslav and Konstantin Grachev, on March 11, the museum opened an exhibition presented to visitors as "Traditions of the Russian Academy." The theme for the creation of two large-scale paintings was the Nizhny Novgorod militia, which liberated Russian cities from Polish-Lithuanian invaders in 1612.
To create each of the paintings, the artists used various plastic means, but the historical theme uniting them, especially significant for Nizhny Novgorod, became the basis for transferring these works to the collection of the National Oil and Chemical Museum. Nizhny Novgorod was a city where a militia was created for the campaign that liberated the Russian lands, and then Moscow.
After the end of the exhibition, available to visitors until April 11, both canvases will become part of the exhibition dedicated to the feat of the people. It is constantly located in the hall of K. E. Makovsky, where works on a historical theme are placed, made by academic painters of the 19th century - K. Makovsky, M. Scotty, K. Wenig. In such an environment, the works of modern authors will allow a new look at the historical theme, the images of the main characters.
During the exhibition, visitors to NGHM will be able to see other works by Vyacheslav Grachev. The exposition included about 30 works belonging to the Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, in 2013 received the title of “Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts”. Most of the works were written by the painter in recent years.
Pictures for the exhibition were selected in such a way that it was obvious to the visitors - the breadth of the painter’s creative range does not prevent the master from being faithful to the traditions of the Russian Academy.
