The exhibition includes graphic and pictorial works by prominent artists: Ivan Aivazovsky, Alexei Bogolyubov, Leonid Blinov, Nikolay Gritsenko, Alexei Gansen, Pyotr Wagner, Albert Benoit and others.

The exposition space traces the history of the Russian marina genre, starting from the 19th and ending at the beginning of the 20th centuries.

The exhibition opens with a romantic painting by Ivan Aivazovsky. Despite the fact that the paintings of the great artist born in Crimea were painted “from memory”, they convey the Master’s enthusiasm for the elements, sea and sky.

Visitors to the exhibition will get acquainted with the works of Alexei Bogolyubov - a graduate of the Naval Cadet Corps, and later the Academy of Arts. The artist reflected in his work, based on realism and plein air, the theme of the history of the Russian navy.

Alexey Bogolyubov left behind a whole galaxy of students. One of them is Leonid Blinov. Not known as a marine painter, the artist is interested in his search for drawing, watercolors, and oil paintings. On the presented canvases you can see how bold he is in the sketch, and how constrained in a large canvas.

The works of other students of Bogolyubov - Mikhail Tkachenko and Nikolai Gritsenko - enriched the Russian marina with new European techniques in painting. In their paintings, visitors will see manifestations of a special relationship to color, characteristic of impressionism, and the Art Nouveau line in building a shore, wave or rock.

Thus, while maintaining a bright creative individuality, each of the artists adopted the experience of teachers and developed the genre of Russian marina under the influence of new trends in art.
