The opening ceremony was attended by city officials, including Minister of Culture of the Ryazan region Vitaly Popov and Marina Kotova, director of the art museum. The artist’s colleagues, his students and relatives did not ignore the opening of the exhibition.

In his welcoming speech, Vitaliy Popov noted that the life and work of Konstantin Shelkovenko was dedicated to Ryazan, which became his homeland. The exhibition opened a year when Ryazan celebrates the awarding of the title “City of Military Valor”, and the whole country celebrated the 70th anniversary of the Victory. Konstantin Karpovich was at the front from the first day of the war, doing everything so that Victory Day came for everyone as quickly as possible.

Konstantin Shelkovenko was born in the Nikolaev area. Left without parents, he lived for up to 16 years in an orphanage near Moscow, and then became a student at the school in memory of 1905. He graduated from art school a year before the war, and then military service followed. After the war, Konstantin Karpovich came to Ryazan, where his future wife was waiting for him. So Ryazan became the artist’s second homeland, where he worked fruitfully for many years.

The exhibition contains paintings by Konstantin Shelkovenko at different times. In addition to landscapes, portraits, a self-portrait of the artist is also placed here. There are sculptures in his creative luggage. The bas-relief panel decorating the regional drama theater was performed with the participation of Shelkovenko.
