MOSCOW. This year, Russia and Mexico celebrate the 125th anniversary of cooperation. In honor of the anniversary of the cultural ties between the two countries, the exhibition of Vladimir Kibalchich, an artist who was born in Russia but lived in Mexico for more than fifty years, was opened on October 19.
The works presented for the exhibition by the Mexican Institute of Fine Arts from their funds are considered part of the cultural heritage of Mexico. The opening of the exhibition, entitled “Vlad is returning home,” is dedicated to the tenth anniversary of the death of Vladimir Kibalchich.
In Mexico, Vladi (as the artist signed his creations) gained fame as a monumental artist. His works have become an adornment of many public buildings in the Western Hemisphere. They can be seen in libraries, temples, universities, presidential palaces. In his legacy there is a substantial amount of easel works.
In a special place in the work of Vladimir Kibalchich, works performed in graphic techniques. The famous Mexican artist David Siqueiros spoke of Vlad, as "the genius of light and shadow." His skill allowed to skillfully convey the expression of movement, to use the expressiveness of the contrasts of black and white colors.
The opening exhibition presents 32 graphic works by Vladimir Kibalchich, executed in watercolor, ink and charcoal. This is the third exhibition of the Russian-Mexican artist in Russia. Virtually unknown to the Russian public until the mid-90s, Vladimir Kibalchich was represented in his native city - Orenburg, and a few years later his exhibition was held in the Russian Academy of Arts. In 2002, he was elected an honorary member of the Academy.
