MOSCOW. From September 24 to September 27, 2015, the GRAUND galleries and workshops of the Moscow Exhibition Halls Association presented their grounding project at Vienna Contemporary.

“The GROUND Grounding Project has received international publicity for the first time. We presented not only the artists who took part in our project, but also the ideology of "Grounding" itself, as well as our experience in the cross-discipline of art.

The main thing that we proclaim is the combination of exhibition work with the work of musicians, dancers, artists, and the possibility of their work with each other. "Grounding" is an attempt to create a basis for a special dialogue with the public, which ideally will combine the figurative and sensual with the logical and thoughtful and will promote mutual understanding between artists and spectators. Our experience in public art and the experience of dialogue with the public, which shared with us opinions about our perception of works of art, aroused great interest. We are not talking about abstract ideas, we offer recipes or mechanisms for how to launch contemporary art programs in public spaces, ”says Katya Bochavar, curator of the GRAUND galleries and workshops of the Moscow Exhibition Halls Association.

The project, which was implemented in Moscow in early 2015, was attended by 30 artists, each of whom set himself the task of getting used to the environment of the district with its architectural features and utopian vision of different generations of Muscovites and their everyday rituals, social and ethnic. The vision of the world of a contemporary artist is not only romantic, but also critical, analytical, even scientific. As tools for their research, artists use a wide variety of genres ranging from video to sound recording, from studying the chemical composition of air to collecting historical documentation and artifacts, as well as local history and sociological surveys.

"Grounding" sensitively and methodically analyzes the reaction of the local population to the invasion of objects of modern art in their habitat. Painting, drawing, poetry, art performance, photography, video art, sound art, sculpture, installation - this is an incomplete list of those types of art that went outside the borders of the Peschanaya and Khodynka galleries, and when they returned, gave occasion to discuss with the residents of the region the phenomenon of the presence of a cultural institution in an urban environment.
