"Sukhumi period" by artist Alexander Sementsev in the Sochi Museum of Art Automatic translate
SOCHI. Since July 16, the exhibition “Sukhumi period” has been opened in the city art museum, dedicated to the work of Alexander Sementsev. This talented painter lived in Abkhazia for more than twenty years, so his paintings are well known to residents of the republic.
His life ended ten years ago, but the canvases he painted, where the painter captured the streets and surroundings of old Sukhumi, radiate warmth, making viewers enjoy magnificent landscapes. The exhibition opened in Sochi was organized by his daughter, Elena Sementseva.
At the opening of the exhibition, Elena Alexandrovna thanked all the participants in the preparation of the exhibition. According to her, it is extremely important that the exhibition was held in this exhibition space - the painter’s works are presented in the museum for the first time. Preparations for the exhibition began in the winter.
Elena Alexandrovna, together with the leadership of the museum, selected paintings for a future exhibition. They decided for a long time what period of creativity would be presented at the exhibition. The choice was between the early period of work in Sukhumi and the theme of the war in Abkhazia. We stopped at the early Sukhumi period, deciding that for the July Sochi this topic is more relevant.
The exhibition included 56 works created during an important period for the artist - at that time he made the final choice between work at the Physicotechnical Institute and painting. Most of the exposition was given to landscape paintings, but among them there was a place for portraits, among which you can see a portrait of his daughter and a self-portrait of the artist himself. Throughout the exhibition, a documentary film dedicated to the artist can be seen daily. It was filmed in 1989.
In the future, it is planned to create an exhibition where works on the war in Abkhazia will be presented.
