MOSCOW. Exhibition "Younger Bruegels", which opened in the Pushkin Museum im. Pushkin Museum continues to acquaint its visitors with works provided by private collectors. This time, the exhibition features paintings by Flemish artists belonging to the famous collector Konstantin Mauerhaus.
Mauerhaus collected his collection for fifteen years. Today, in the collection of the collector is more than a hundred paintings made by masters of Northern Europe. These works were created in the 15-17th centuries. To create an exhibition, the collector selected 29 paintings by the Flemish artists.
The basis of the exhibition were paintings, the authors of which are the artists of the younger generation, known in the world of the Bruegel dynasty. The founder of this dynasty was Peter Brueghel the Elder, nicknamed Muzhitsky. The work of this legendary master influenced European painting. The best paintings of Brueghel-Muzhitsky are in the collection of the Vienna Museum of Art. The cycle "Seasons", written by him, is considered to be the pinnacle of painting of the late Renaissance.
His sons - Peter Bruegel, known by the nickname "Hellish" and Jan Brueghel (for his mastery in the depiction of flowers they began to call him Velvet), continued the dynasty of artists The son of Jan Brueghel Velvet, Jan Brueghel the Younger, also was engaged in painting. Working with his father, he painted paintings with mythological subjects and majestic winter landscapes.
