"Dog and other unnecessary things ..." - exhibition of Elena Epifanova in the hall of the Ministry of Agriculture Automatic translate
MOSCOW. The Moscow Association of Painters presented a personal exhibition of the capital’s artist Elena Epifanova. The exhibition opened on February 10 in the exhibition hall of the partnership, receiving an unusual name. One of the still lifes, which became the basis of the exposition, is presented by the artist as an image of “Dogs and other unnecessary things…”. A personal exhibition of the artist was also named.
This work of Elena Epifanova refers to a series of her "white" still lifes. To this series, the artist added her works representing the projects “village grotesque” and “Road”. The author herself says that in her works, space is the main character. Light, almost colorless, it resembles a human memory, first pushing images of people and objects to the surface, and then again absorbing them.
An article by art critic Victoria Petukhova states that the works of Elena Epifanova, combined into a series of “white” ones, actually include all the colors of the palette, only the artist uses an extremely narrow color range. The objects in the still lifes performed by the artist seem to manifest themselves from space, and it has a density, becoming a cotton blanket that envelops people and objects.
The works of other series are made in a completely different manner. The exhibition presents some works from the Zimka series, where white color becomes an ideal background, providing expressiveness of silhouettes, cutting off excess. The artist uses it as a universal tool, solving various tasks with the help of white color. Elena Epifanova freely uses mixed media, combining hatching, collage and texture of colors in her works.
The exhibition is waiting for visitors on February 21st.
