MOSCOW. On January 28, the Grand Exhibition Hall Manege hosted the opening of a grand exhibition dedicated to the anniversary of the studio named after Grekov, uniting military artists. The history of this famous creative workshop has been going on for eighty years. The opened exhibition is the largest of the expositions presented to the public, for all the years of the existence of this creative association.

Part of the artwork was delivered to the capital from other regions of the country. In total, the exhibition includes more than a thousand works of various directions of art. During its inspection, visitors will see large-scale paintings, sculptures and graphics. The lacquered miniature is also on display. Most of these works are devoted to military history, but the brightest days of peace are not forgotten either.

The opening ceremony was attended by Sergei Shoigu, the Minister of Defense, as well as Vladimir Medinsky, who is responsible for Russian culture. Both ministers in their welcoming remarks noted the importance of the work of military artists who dedicated their talent to Russia. Their work deserves respect.

The monumental masterpieces created by military masters that adorned the Mamaev Kurgan and Treptower Park in Berlin are known to the whole world. The canvases written by the members of Grekov’s studio capture the moments of historical battles, the road of war and the minutes of calm between battles. Sketches for many works were made at the forefront, and then transferred to the canvas.

These works, preserving the memory of the past, give an understanding of why our soldiers gave their lives. Therefore, they are important for the younger generation. The exhibition presents paintings by classics of battle painting and our contemporaries. Among them are works by Mitrofan Grekov, the founder of the studio.
