MOSCOW. The Central House of Artists has posted in its exhibition space a retrospective exhibition of Hsar Gassiev, a South Ossetian artist celebrating his 85th birthday. At the opening of the exhibition in the Central House of Artists came the friends of the painter, fans of his work. Tsopan Gassiev, the official representative of the master, said that the best works of Hsar Gassiev, made by the artist over the years of creativity, were selected for the anniversary exhibition.

Among the selected works there are paintings that are most significant in the work of the South Ossetian master, who received the title of People’s Artist of his Homeland - South Ossetia for his talent. Some of the paintings on display in Moscow are shown for the first time. Since then, when Hsar Gassiev presented his work in the capital, almost thirty years have passed.

In the artist’s homeland, his anniversary was also marked by a personal exhibition, held in October this year. On the opening day of the exhibition in Tskhinvali, an order was issued by Leonid Tibilov, President of South Ossetia, to award Hsar Gassiev the Order of Honor. This award, received by the artist, became a recognition of his merits in the field of fine art. For the first time, residents of Tskhinvali saw the works of Hsar Gassiev in 1968, at a personal exhibition of the artist in the city.

The first years of the painter’s active work took place in Moscow. He lived there in the early sixties. His talent was formed under the influence of Moscow artists of the “sixties”, whose ideas Gassiev used when he returned to his homeland. He created his own style of writing, combining the avant-garde skill of the leading masters of the “left” Moscow environment of artists with the heritage of famous masters of Ossetia.
