SAMARA. Last weekend, an exhibition was opened in the Samara Art Museum, introducing the inhabitants of the city with the painting of Nicholas Roerich. The holding of an exhibition in Samara dedicated to the 140th anniversary of the famous philosopher and artist was made possible thanks to an agreement on cooperation between the Sohm and the Russian Museum. The exposition, composed of paintings by Nicholas Roerich, was the first of the planned cooperation programs.
Among residents of Russian cities, few are familiar with the artist’s work for real. In Samara, several exhibitions were held with genuine works of Nicholas Roerich. However, this time, the exposition of the exhibition is designed so that each of the museum visitors can see all the periods of his work. Employees of the Russian Museum selected 72 works by the artist for a trip to Samara, reflecting an entire era.
These paintings were created by the master from 1890 to 1940. Early Roerich embodied in his paintings the world of ancient Russia, where Christianity and paganism harmoniously coexist. There is no enmity between religions; they coexist peacefully, penetrating each other. One of these paintings, “Animal Chara”, is presented on the poster of the exhibition.
In the works of Nicholas Roerich, relating to the early period of his work, lyricism and severity are merged into a single whole, supplemented by some musical note that sounds in the landscapes of the artist. Similar works appeared at the painter during World War II. His paintings again became like magic spells - in “Carpet-Aircraft” the bombing resembles the struggle of the elements that reign over the world, and the figures in camouflage uniforms depicted in the painting “Partisans” resemble the old hermits.
The most famous works of Nicholas Roerich - landscapes of Tibet are not forgotten. All the wealth of the master’s work is available in the museum until February 25th.
