Mikhail Selishchev: The exhibition features enamel on copper and steel. The colors are the same, the firing temperature is the same, but the techniques are completely different. I have been familiar with enamel on copper for almost 25 years. And although my first work is done on steel, I say that I am familiar with the technique of enamel on steel for as many years I can not. Seriously, I met and felt the material 2 years ago at a symposium in Hungary.
D. Surzhina: As a rule, one who works on copper does not work on steel. What is better?
Mikhail Selishchev: On copper, they often work with jewelry enamels, achieving a special depth and brightness of color. On steel - the line prevails. On copper color, on steel - texture. On copper, the size of a jewelry, and on steel - the more, the better. Therefore, symposia on enamel on steel are carried out at the factory furnaces. Of course, you can try to work the same on steel and copper. But now it’s not about that. What is the main difference? In one the subject-object prevails. In another - the approach is basically easel. One is transparent, the other is completely opaque. One burn for a long time, in different ways. The second is fast and there are not enough firing. The main thing, probably, are different ways of thinking. So it’s better to ask what? It’s pointless.
D. Surzhina: And which technique is easier?
Mikhail Selishchev: I can not say. Working with enamel third ten, you understand that the material is almost completely do not know. I found some narrow approach and it’s somersaulting in it. The history of enamel is many, many centuries, like glass or ceramics. During this time, mankind has invented a great deal and achieved. Mikhail Selishchev (born in 1962 in Lviv, Oryol Region) graduated from the Moscow State Institute named after V.I. Surikov in 1988. His work is inherent in innovation and experiment. He works in various materials, but the most favorite of them is enamel. Participated in many international and Russian exhibitions. Author and organizer of land art projects. Member of the MoA, ICOM UNESCO.
The artist was awarded the diploma of the Russian Academy of Arts and the diplomas of the Fourth and Fifth International Biennale «Enamel World» in Salou, Spain, with the First prize of Librart 2012, Belgium, the main prize of the International Enamel Festival Cemadok-2014, Slovakia. In 1995, Mikhail Selishchev created in Rostov the Great House of Creativity «Horse», where artists from different cities come and where there are exhibitions, master classes, symposiums.
