SEVASTOPOL. The exhibition project, presented under the name "Mirror of the Soul", the Sevastopol Art Museum dedicated to his birthday. The opening date of two exhibitions created as part of the project was not accidental for museum staff. In 1927, it was on November 6th that the first visitors came to the art gallery.
The museum’s collection was based on works donated to the future museum by private collectors of Crimea, some of the exhibits came from the collections of museums in Moscow and Leningrad. Galleries and nationalized works of art, which were the property of the owners of private collections, also entered the collection.
Every birthday of the museum, its employees celebrate an exhibition in which they try to show visitors the wealth in the museum’s funds. Usually only a small part of the museum collection is available to visitors. With the help of such exhibitions, exhibits that rarely leave museum stores become accessible for inspection.
The project “Mirror of the Soul” presented this year is located in two museum halls. The exposition located in each of them is a separate exhibition. In the first hall, visitors will get acquainted with the exhibition "Old Portrait". Here, the museum staff placed more than forty exhibits representing painting and graphics, made by masters of Russia and Europe in the 17-20 centuries. These are portraits depicting individuals who went down in the history of Russia and Europe.
The second part of the project, located in the next room, consists of works of art created in Soviet times. “A View from the Past Century” - under this name, visitors can see paintings and sculptures made in the 20th century. Of particular interest are sculptural portraits, the materials for which were marble and metal.
